How Offer Routing Works

Editorially independentNo paid placementsNet value after feesUpdated Jul 2026

When you tap Apply on a card review, PaySmarter sends you through whichever ecosystem currently offers the strongest first-year value for that specific card. The routing is automatic — and the decision is based on what's best for you, not on which partner pays the highest commission.

The offer sources we compare

  • FinlyWealth referrals
  • Great Canadian Rebates cashback
  • Credit Card Genius bonuses
  • Ratehub featured offers
  • Frugal Flyer exclusives
  • High Interest Savings cashback
  • Direct issuer application pages

How we pick the winner

For every card, we score each available path by total first-year value to the cardholder: signup bonus + any rebate paid back to you − annual fee. The path with the highest net is the one we route to.

When two paths are within a few dollars, we prefer the one with the simpler claim process — fewer steps to receive your bonus or rebate.

Why routing changes over time

Issuers rotate signup bonuses, rebate portals run limited-time promotions, and direct issuer offers occasionally beat every partner ecosystem. We re-check active offers on a regular cadence so the link you click reflects the strongest current path. The destination today may differ from the destination next month.

Independence and disclosure

Some routed links pay PaySmarter a referral commission at no additional cost to you. These relationships do not influence the underlying ranking of cards — see our card ranking methodology and the full affiliate disclosure for details.

Want to verify?

Every card review shows the resolved offer source above the Apply CTA. If you prefer a different path, you can always navigate directly to the issuer's application page from any official source.
