How the Aeroplan eStore actually works
- Sign in at estore.aeroplan.com with your Aeroplan number so the purchase can be attributed to your account.
- Browse to a partner retailer from inside the eStore and click through — the click is what tracks the sale, not the retailer's own site.
- Complete checkout in that same session. Earn rates are shown per retailer as points per dollar and change frequently, so read the tile before you shop.
- Points post after the retailer confirms the order and the return window closes, which is usually several weeks rather than instantly.
Tracking is fragile
Ad blockers, cashback browser extensions, opening a new tab mid-checkout, or using a gift card or a coupon code from another site can all break attribution. If the points matter, do the click-through in a clean window and keep the confirmation email.
The stack: portal points + card points
The eStore does not replace your credit card's earn — it sits on top of it. A single online purchase can therefore earn Aeroplan points twice: once from the portal for the click-through, and once from the card you pay with. If that card is an Aeroplan co-branded card, both layers land in the same currency and pool together toward the same redemption.
- Layer 1 — portal: bonus Aeroplan points per dollar for shopping through the eStore link.
- Layer 2 — card: your card's normal earn on the same transaction, in Aeroplan points directly or in a transferable currency.
- Layer 3 — welcome bonus: if you are still working through a minimum-spend requirement, eStore purchases count as ordinary spend and move you toward the bonus.
- Layer 4 — retailer promo: sale pricing and retailer loyalty programs are unaffected by the click-through, so they stack too.
Cards that keep the stack in one currency
Where the eStore is genuinely worth it
- Large planned purchases — electronics, appliances, furniture — where a few points per dollar is a meaningful absolute number.
- Retailers you were going to use anyway. The portal only pays if the click-through costs you nothing in price or convenience.
- Elevated-rate promotions, which the eStore runs periodically and which are worth timing a deferred purchase around.
- Topping off a redemption when you are a few thousand points short of a specific award seat.
When to skip it
- When a competing portal, a cashback site or a straight discount code beats the portal's value — you generally cannot use two portals on the same purchase.
- When the eStore price is higher than buying direct. Points earned rarely cover a price premium.
- On small purchases, where the points earned are not worth the risk of a tracking failure.
- When the retailer excludes your category — gift cards, subscriptions and marketplace sellers are commonly excluded from portal earn.
Apply the same stacking logic to rent and bills
Shopping portals only reach discretionary spend, which for most Canadians is the smaller half of the budget. The same stacking idea applied to rent and recurring bills moves far more points, because rent is the largest predictable line item most households have. Routing rent through a payment platform such as Chexy or Neobanc puts your card's earn on money that otherwise generates nothing — and if that card is an Aeroplan card, those points land in the same account as your eStore points.
